Jan and Paul Garland (2009 Vice Commodore) Celebrate July 4th at the MBC
July 4th Clambake News

Saturday is looking like it's going to be a pretty decent day with a small chance of isolated, late afternoon t-storms...a great day for a July 4th Clambake/Lobster Dinner at the Medford Boat Club.  Don't let the weather keep you home or dampen your holiday celebration...there is still time to order your lobster dinner tickets for our Saturday feast.  Come on down and spend the day at the Club...dinner's at 5 PM.

Ticket orders are still being accepted today.  (The Mount Vernon Restaurant needs a final count). Please drop your check ($40 per person) to the MBC office before 10 PM tonight or deliver to 6 Beverly Road in Arlington.

Questions/info, call Karen at 781 608-3156.

Another fun picnic at the MBC
IMPORTANT SCHEDULE UPDATE FOR JULY 4 MBC CLAMBAKE!

Please mark your calendars!

The July 4th holiday Lobster/Clambake is scheduled for Saturday, July 4, with raindate, Sunday, July 5th.

Earlier announcements regarding the event indicated a Sunday event with a Monday raindate.
This was changed because most businesses celebrate this holiday on Friday-Sunday,  and do not include Monday as their holiday.  We didn't want to risk anyone missing their clambake!

The Mount Vernon Restaurant is happy to accommodate this change.

Food, Fun, Back Beach Games, Pie Eating Contest, Fourth of July Racing Series, Swim Races.

Ticket orders may be delivered to the Club on Opening Day. Remember to mark your calendars for July 4th...dinner to be served at 5 PM.  All ticket orders are due by July 1st.

Volunteers needed for Back Beach Games, Pie Eating Contest, Raffle Ticket Sales.

House Rule on Parties at the MBC
by posted 05/20/2009

Good Morning,

With Opening Day fast approaching, I am writing to remind all members about the rule on private parties at the MBC.   All party requests must go through the House Managers, who will log your party into the master calendar.  Guest fees are payable on the day of the event.   Here's the official line....

House Rule 3.5.5
"If a member wishes to bring a group of 10 or more guests to the Club, arrangements must be made AT LEAST 7 DAYS IN ADVANCE, and must be approved by the Manager.  Regular Guest fees shall apply per Guest. Any Group parties must be set up in the picnic area - no exception.  Only Parties of 20 or fewer people are allowed - no exceptions.  This includes all parties involving non-member guests, including children's birthday parties."

30th Joseph R. Duplin Trophy Regatta
by posted 03/29/2009

30th Joseph R. Duplin Trophy
Tufts University & Medford Boat Club
Upper Mystic Lake, Medford
March 28-29, 2009

REPORT AFTER DAY 1:

Saturday:  After a calm morning, perfect conditions under sunny and blue
skies allowed all 45 races of the round-robin and one tie break race to
be completed.  The first race stared at 11:40 in the minimum three knots
SE wind.  A couple subsequent starts were aborted for the three knot
minimum rule but the wind kept building and settled in from ESE reaching
a maximum of 12 knots.  The Charles River Fog reached Medford in the
form of low clouds after 4:00 knocking the breeze back to 5-8 for the
final two flights.

The level of team racing was outstanding.  It is clear that these
women’s teams prepared for this event.  The teams started well, sailed
fast, and executed close quarter maneuvers throughout the day.  Only one
protest was heard by judge Peter Johns which was disallowed.  No breakdowns.

The format for tomorrow is to run a consolation single round-robin for
the bottom six teams followed by a double round-robin for the top four
teams.

The Medford Boat Club, Tufts next door neighbor, opened their doors for
boat rotation, shelter, etc.  Coaches watched from the second floor
luxury lounge.  SailGroove.org (Chris Love) arrived with the late
afternoon clouds to video the last few races.

Rain is expected tomorrow along with more wind and continued fantastic
racing.

Results for round one:
1.  Boston College  9-0
2.  Yale  7-2
3.  Harvard  7-2
4.  Brown  6-3 (beat Tufts in sail-off race)

5.    Tufts  6-3
6.    MIT  4-5
7.    St. Mary’s  3-6
8.    Boston Univ.  2-7
9.    Rhode Island  1-8
10.   Stanford  0-9

Names in tomorrow’s final report.
PRO: Ken Legler
RC: Margaret Rew, Nate Rosenberg, Greg Hering, Ruth Summers.

DCR Spillway Project
by posted 01/19/2009

By now most of you have probably heard something about the DCR Spillway reconstruction project.  The flag officers (Commodore, Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore) have been in constant communication with the DCR team regarding the project.  We are acting in the best interest of the club and the DCR team has been very accommodating.  However, until final approval is given to the project, nothing is going to happen.  I would be happy to answer (where I can) any concerns and/or questions that you may have.

Phone Number Change
by posted 08/07/2008

For many years we had a phone in the club office as well as a pay phone.  It was the pay phone number that was given out by 411 if you asked for a number for the Medford Boat Club.  This year we removed the pay phone and are using only the office phone now.  However, it came to our attention recently that 411 is still giving out the old pay phone number, which no longer exists.

If you need to call the club, the correct (and only) number is now:
